Former Dominion Finance boss Terry Butler, who avoided trial over the collapse of the finance company due to the onset of cancer, has died.
Butler died on March 28 at the Mercy Hospice in Ponsonby, Auckland.
''Terry will be in our hearts and minds forever and we will always love and admire him for his dedication to his family and friends,'' a death notice said.
His funeral will be held on April 3 at Auckland's Greenlane Christian Centre.
Butler was best known for his role as managing director of finance company Dominion Finance.
In 2006 he appeared on the National Business Review's Rich List valued at $55 million.
But in 2008 Dominion collapsed owing investors $326m, and authorities accused some of the company's directors of fraud.
Butler and three others were charged by the Serious Fraud Office over the collapse of Dominion.
Butler was excused from trial in November due to his illness.
